I like to wait before cutting that one. Use a bamboo stake or something to keep it out of the way in the mean time. I will even bury it for a while but you have to keep and eye on it and when you decide to keep the pumpkin and the side vine is starting to cause stem stress, then it has to go. Remember, it is a side vine behind your pumpkin. Its helping to feed the fruit.

I'd wait till you have the one you want. I certainly would make sure you get the leaf away from your pumpkin so it doesnt scratch, scrape bruise your pumpkin. I'm getting the vine in order on my plant. I certainly would start to train the vine away from the pumpkin also get the area where the fruits gonna be sitting in order. In a few days i'll be culling down to the competition fruit a most growers will so vine training as well as leaf maintanance around the fruit is a must.

Once the pumpkin is set and is a keeper, I usually take off the secondary just before and just after the fruit if they are on the same side of the vine as the pumpkin.

Usually the pumpkin is going to get large enough that the vine & leaves get in the way anyways and removing it early leaves less of a scar and opens up working room.
