Been placing my SVB trap right next to my Wursten marrow and noticed the trap seems to attract more SVB's to that general area than needed. I see LOTS of people on here do the same.
Not saying you shouldn't do it but man I have been picking off a buttload of eggs from the secondaries. The company that manufactures these traps suggest for japanese beetle traps to place the traps far away from foliage. I'm thinking its a bad idea to place these traps near the vines. Just my 2 cents.
These are the placement instructions for their japanese beetle traps. Other traps have similar instructions.

"PLACEMENT: To be most effective, the trap should be
located about 10 feet downwind of foliage to intercept beetles
heading toward it. (Figure 3). Do not place the trap near or
in the foliage as it will attract more beetles into the foliage.
(Experience has shown that a height of about 3 1/2 to 4 feet
intercepts large numbers of beetles). Traps work better in
bright, open areas rather than shade."

Thanks for tip.
My SVB traps were in the clear, but this past week's growth surge on plants have surrounded them.
Placement instructions make sense to me.

I e-mailed the company that makes the traps and here is what they told me. So back to around my marrow the trap goes LOL

"Bill, the SVB traps are just the Pheromone so it is okay to place near the plants. The goal here is to catch the male moth when they emerge to mate. This gives you a time line that mating is occurring and egg laying will begin shortly. This helps you time your control measure more effectively so hopefully it will prevent any damage from occurring."

I'm wondering now if the traps only attract/catch males? It's hard to tell them apart....
