the reason everyone thinks 3 lobes are no good is because it's pretty rare to get one, there for you don't see many big pumpkins that were 3 lobe, also I don't believe there is any proof of a 3 lobe not growing as good as a 4-5 lobe. If I had a 3 lobe that looked good I would grow it.

If you like where it is set and the timing is right go for it. I know of at least 1 3 lober going 1200 +

I personally like to see 3-lobe pumpkins and I will actually favor keeping one if I see it.

3-lobe pumpkins have a very high success rate to produce big pumpkins when you look at the numbers.

1520 Sperry was a 3-lobe pumpkin...

Matt, I'm growing a 1520 and have pollinated the first two females on the main, both 3 lobers. Didn't know the 1520 was a 3 lober, I'll likely keep one as it is doing okay and after learning this. TY, John

My 1204.5 was a three lobe last year.I just pollinated a 3 lobe this morning on that seed.Ive seen 4's and 5's on that plant.I'll likely go with it since the next one will be another week. Most of the big fruit are on 5 lobers cause most of the fruit grown are 5 lobe.Dont know if lobe # means anything

If you have less lobes would that mean the pumpkin will have less ribs to possible split at ?

Pap's reply to your question last year hit the nail on the head.
