Anyone have any idea as to what the heck is going on with my 921.5 Rosa? The last three feet of all side vines and the last 4 feet of the main now have very small stunted leaf growth but the vines are still growing very strong. The rest of the plant before the problem areas looks great. Here is a picture.

I also have a 1610 Lieber in the same patch and it looks great.I have done nothing different. All applications of fert, pesticide, fungicide and water have been the same. Could it be a genetic issue that the plant is only showing now? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I hope i am wrong but something similar happened to me yrs ago ,the best i could determine was it got bacteria wilt probably from a cucumber beetle ! ,starts dieing from ends of vines backwards! my other vines were fine also !

My 1579 Revier did that last year. It was actually a little worse than your picture. I tried everything but ended up pulling the plant. Mine started in the hoop house from fairly early on and was not from cucumber beetles. Someing in the soil was the cause of mine.

I have seen that in the past with my plant, it seemed to have happened after alot of water and the soil being compacted. It is in essense strangling the oxygen out of the soil around the roots and the plant is chocked off. I dug and "fluffed" up the soil and it seemed to come back.

Thanks for the responses. Not sure what this may be from. I looked at as many pictues of plant disease as possible and nothign matches what is happening to this plant. What is strange is that some of the side vines on the right side of the plant are normal while all remaining side vines and the main is suffering from this issue. I will just let the plant grow out and see if the leafs become viable. If not, then, ouch!!! as I only have my 1610 remaining. I will report back in a few weeks and advise just in case anyone else ever experiences this in the future.

The fact that 1 side of the plant is damaged and the other isn't even further reinforces the 2-4D spray damage theory unfortunately. You are in a tight residential area. You say the right side is okay and the left side is bad- based on last year's setup that means the side facing your own lawn is bad. Check with the neighbor on the other side of your property. I will call you shortly.

look at this link as it may help some

look at the squash leaf curl and the verticillium

note to self........if that was happening in my patch i would get a tissue test, remove plant and treat soil yesterday if it is desease.

Could be 2-4D.. or if you sprayed warrior or a pesticide on a hot day..I had something similar happen on my 1450 a few years back..Check out my diary. If it does not correct itself soon, I would cut all the infected vines. All the fruit aborted on my plant and I ended up pulling it

Thanks again to all for their responses but I think that matt-man may be the winner!!!!!! I looked at the link and viewed all of the pictures. From what I viewed, I think that I very well may have a calcium deficiency!!!! At least that is what I hope. The description of a Cal deficiency is as follows: "Calcium-deficient plants are stunted, having distorted, cupped leaves and characteristic interveinal chlorosis. Symptoms appear first on new growth""" Looks like my plant may have used much of the calcium in the soil which is why all of the early leaves are very healthy and the newer leaves are stunted. Time to hammer some calcium into the patch and see what happens. I have nothing else to lose. For everyone out there, the link that matt-man sent is a great refernce guide for patch disorder comparisons. Thanks matt-man!!!
