My questipn is how big can the pumpkin get before it aborts...i heard of one person saying they had a pumpkin over 200 lbs abort. Any truth to that and how long do you wait before starting to cull to know you really have the magic fruit. And does any growers have an "insurance fruit" on the vine before culling down to the conpetition fruit.

Any size. If conditions are not right the plant will abort to survive.

If the pumpkin got over a hundred pounds chances are it stopped growing because of a major nutrient imbalance or disease, rather than the plant simply aborting it.

I tend to agree but with mother nature you never know. Nobody has and probably never will figure her out.
