Subject: Main vine split..help needed

I found my 918 has a split in the main vine at two feet from the stump. What is the best practice to keep the vine from splitting any further and keeping disease out? See picture. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=159443 Thanks, Mark

When I have them they usually heal on their own. Some growers dust it with sulfur or fungicide. Since it is split in an area water could accumulate you may want to cover it with a structure like the one in the link below.

Hey mark, that happened to my 1339 last year and i gently zip tied it together with some small ones and applied fungicide and it did heal up (not real pretty though) and still got a 396 lber off it. hard to tell what it could have been though!! Erik

I had my main vin split ealrier this year. I used Captan and had a fan blowing on it for 2 weeks. Dried up fine

Mark the only splits I will baby are in the stem no worries about main vines my 1332 wolf got rolled and split about 2 weeks ago it healed fine with no attention paid the plant is kicking butt.
