What is the proper big pumpkin way of attaching my sneakers to a board.

I'm new to this, but I would suggest gorilla glue or a panhead screw and washer under a padded shoe liner (Dr Scholls?) be careful of having too much board on the insole side or your attempt to reduce compaction may lead to falling onto the plants

Yes, what ever the method, (wood screws with a small washer). Just towards the front of the the shoe. It will allow you to squat down while wearing them.

I prefer using cheap rubber crocks attached at the front with screws & washers. By using the crocks I can slip them on & off easily.

I took some bolts and bolted them right to a board. Doesnt hurt my feet at all and keeps the shoes on the board.

I agree with Paul, the cheap walmart version of Crocs work best. Here is the pair I made last year. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=133232
