Subject: Pumpkins On NBC's The Marriage Ref June 26th

We finally got word that my wife and I will be on NBC's The Marriage Ref premier episode on Sunday, June 26th talking about giant pumpkins. In most areas it will air around 9:00 or 10:00 so check your local listings. I hope I did all pumpkin growers proud.

If you didn't see the show last year, it is produced by Jerry Seinfeld and on it couples come with a "dispute" that they discuss with a celebrity panel to decide who is right. I'm sure at least one of you have been told that you spend too much time in the pumpkin patch by your significant other. I've had that discussion more than once with my dear wife. She is actually very supportive, in her own little way, of my pumpkin growing, but doesn't always appreciate all of the time it takes until the end of the season.

I wish I could say I have grown bigger pumpkins and I'm sure some of you could have done a better job representing our great sport on national television but I was grateful for the opportunity to do it and I hope for two things to happen. First that more people get involved in giant pumpkin growing as a result. And two that I can at least get a few wives or husbands off your back after making a great case on the show.

A big thanks to the Wiz for the pumpkin grown from the 985 Werner that appears on the show. We didn’t do the taping at my house until the first week of December and The Marriage Ref director wanted a pumpkin for the show and the Wiz’s was the only one around at that point. Next time I’m going to make sure it has his biggest pumpkin around rather than his smallest for the show.

I can't at this point talk much about what happens on the show but let me say that the celebrities have a respect for what you all do.

I’ll post a reminder the day of the show for those of you who want to watch on Sunday, June 26th.

My wife and I will be watching... this hits home in a big way. I grew two pumpkins last year and my wife called them precious I and precious II. It was my first year growing big pumpkins. I have two more plants in the ground right now and they are doing great. However, this year I am trying hard to think of ways to make life a little easier and less time consuming in the patch. Life is a big balancing act.
