Sorry if this has been asked before, but I haven’t seen this before in any other diaries. One of my plants is over 7 feet long but only has 2 secondaries growing about half way down. All the other buds seem to be stunted and just won’t grow out. The main is averaging about 7 inches a day and the leaves are a nice dark green.

Has anyone had this happen? I am wondering if it’s a nitrogen deficiency? I do have high potassium levels which I read can inhibit nitrogen uptake. Any suggestion would be appreciated. I have 450 sq feet for the plant but at this rate it will be a 50 sq foot plant (25 x 2). lol

I used to have that problem. I think it could be some sort of nutrient deficiency. Last year I had a weak does of fertilizer go through irrigation system every day and I had no stunted vines.

I agree with np luke. Mine last year did the same thing at first (earlier pics in my diary show this) and I was told that my nitrogen was mostly still locked up and I ended up getting some water soluble nitrogen and started using it along the main vine and boom....they started coming out like gangbusters. Maybe someone else has more insight than me and can help but that's what I did and it seemed to have worked. I still didn't make it too strong though cause I was afraid of over doing it. I eventually eased off closer to pollination time cause I didn't want all green and no fruit set. Hope this helps bud! Erik

This message brings back memories of the horrific 2010 season.

Most of my 2ndarys stunted when they got 2-3 ft long and i didnt have 1 vine of 3rd stage growth.

My issue was low n2. woody junk in the planting sites destroyed my season before the start.

Erik, do you recall what you used and the number (N)? Jeremy, not sure if you remember, but I emailed you a while back about this last year hoping to avoid the same thing.

And thanks, Nic.

I had the same issue last year I "lightly" applied some AMS 21 0 0 Around entire plant and I kept soil wet in about 2 Weeks all me secondarys started to take off and fill in patch. Dave

Also I think it is better to apply fertilizer evenly over the whole patch instead of just at the stump.

Hey luke,
I used the same stuff as DaveM. Used and kept watering the hell out of it like he said and they started taking off like crazy. Erik

Yes apply around the entire plant as pumpkin roots travel out if u end up with ams remember it only lasts about 3 weeks I later apply a slow release like blood meal

In my patch that is sure sign my ph is getting below 6. Nutrient balance is then completely out of balance.

Don, my ph was around 7.4 and I did add a little sulfer. I did a cheap ph test tonight twice and it says it's still above 7. I hope not too far.
