Can anyone identify the yellow blotches on the first true leaves of my pumpkins. See my growers diary for pic. Thanks Hal.

Hal, looks to me like my plants when the soil has not heated up yet and is just too cold.

Roots are not as able to take up nitrogen with the colder soil....things will change once there is more consistant weather and things warm up.

Cold wet soil will do this every time. No problems Hal, this is a prime example of lack of nitrogen intake due to cooler soils or especially cool wet soil. They will grow out of it when the soil warms up.

Agree with both of the above. Both of my first true leaves turned yellow and fell off both my plants. They sat stunted for days, but once the temps heated up they kicked in and are in overdrive.

Hal, I had the same problem last year and was told it was a nitrogen deficiency due to the cold weather we had in the spring. I agree with what some of the others have said, The problem should go away as the soil warms up. good luck!!

Manganese deficiency.
A lot of growers are experiencing Yellow mottled areas; this can be a Manganese deficiency, possible caused by cold soil, Certain nutrients are unavailable when the soil is cold.
Too much Potassium (balance is the key) can effect magnesium uptake (as well as Nitrogen and Calcium).

- Continued - This can create yellow leaves, more evenly across the leaves.
