this has been the worst RI spring in many years.plants dont grow without sun and heat. if this keeps up i may have to lower my standards.

right now WR asperations are vanishing fast, regional competition slipping away as well. hell if this keeps up its just gonna be me vs ron for the plainfield pike championship. and we know how thats gonna end ---lol

weather -----the great equalizer.

I'll agree with that. Not much in the way of sun. The plants look healthy but their not growing like they should. Ive been getting really frustrated and hope the weather gets better.

Worst storm I've seen in years just went through here with 60 MPH winds. I expect to go out to the patch tomorrow and find nothing left.

You got that right Joe, I'm going to be real nervous when it's time to take off the hoop houses. It's all that has saved them for the last 2 and a half weeks.

I keep saying all the wind, sun and heat *IS* the problem here and often wish for some of that weather you all complain about. It hasn't rained (nor a cloud) here in over 180 days.

On a serious note, I've seen the news, so really don't want any of that weather. A big sorry to all that have had to endure it!!!!!

Circleville ,OH.

Over 10" rain in the past two weeks.

Storms last night took off half my barn roof and a few old trees around the house.

Good thing the plants are still in the house, If I would have put them out they would have been gone.

I'm getting the feeling I'm not to grow this year!!!

Hang on Sloopy! This is the final week of Hell's fury for southern Ohio. Don't give up yet. If we can get through this week we'll be OK. Going to be real nice next week.

Well Darryl, I had pretty much resigned myself to not giving a go if the storm had wiped me out. I knew I couldn't stand myself at work today, so I took a day's vacation to survey the carnage. All huts were intact and no plant damage. The wind fence took a hit though. Looks like I've found the solution to high winds while huts are out.

Jeff, I didn't count on you growing this year with your work schedule the way it was. You musta been elbows and a$$holes getting prepped.

Good luck to you both!

The silt fence is a must with the winds. it also gives a measure of protection for the critters.

Jacob and I got "equalized" the past 3 years with excess rains, but still managed one personal best every year. This year the rains are more moderate, but the temps have been cold. We had 3 frosts last week, but everything survived and is growing. For those of you who are getting soaked, we know how you feel.

I read somewhere the weather pattern is supposed to change next week, any change can only be good it can't get any worse. lol

I think the rain will subside. The wind I the big issue. It can kill a season with ease. Especially in the early stage when things are not anchored in quite yet. Once the plant begins to run things do get easier. The lack of. Sunshine stops any growth.

I think the vast majority of my diary entries have been complaints about the weather but after seeing the rest of the county has it way way way worse than me, I will try to just count my blessings from now on.

Sorry to hear about your barn roof Daryl. Glad to hear both Paul and Joe came through it ok. I lost the 1073 Speakman to the wind. There is just too much open space to the southwest side of my patch. It already had a small kink when it laid down and even though I had it tied down it rolled it over and broke it. Vine was 3.5 ft long. I had started a backup because of the kink, so I was planning on replacing it anyway. Added some more wind breaks. Hoping for some better weather for us all soon.

We need help our plants are growing to fast & we are afraid the pumpkins will go way over 2,000#'s and every one will be mad at us!?!?!?

Would all of you help share your ways of keeping your plants small and growing slowly so we can be on the same level with every one this fall????

Our spring has been awesome and the forecast for the rest of the year is more of the same. If this keeps up I am sure we will get 2,000#'s and over 6,000#'s for our top 3. We don't want to be out casts so please help us!!!!!!

Pap I just looked at your post today, I would have seen it sooner but I have been busy in the garden, plants are at 14 feet now and I'm starting to set pumpkins. Sorry to here about all your problems, I think you should pull all your plants and spend your time starting a sandbaggers' club, I think I know someone that lives in Huntsburg that would be your first member. All kidding aside good luck this year.
