No,I wait cause funny thing can happen.Leave the next ones on the main and a couple on large side vines develop.If something doesnt go right with the first one youre still in the game

ok, thanks cojoe. I have read most of the big pumpkin books out there and have never seen this part spoken of.
So, once you are sure, you can cut all female flowers- or really I guess you might just cut em all off, right? No sense wasting energy for flowers at that point.

scoob,yes once the fruit is around two/ three weeks old then youre safe cutting off any baby pumpkins. the male flowers can be removed earlier (june 25th) as they take longer to develop and wont open till mid july.I'm talking about the new male flower buds that show up as youre pruning and burying vines.
