Has anyone ever used rain barrels for fertilizing their plants?

rain barrels do not break down fast enough to benefit the plant. I find it's difficult to get the tiller to go over them enough to incorporate them into the soil.

Would that be as a foliar? How are you going to get that through a hose. Actually a lot of people collect rain water to water the plants with...

Yo Yorunk - I mainly hook a hose up to my rain barrels and use them for watering. A couple of times last year I put some seaweed & fish fert in them and used the hose to distribute the fert as a soil drench of my patch and another large garden. Otherwise using the rain barrel isn't too practical and I used a sprayer the rest of the time.

john i usually put a couple shoulder straps on the drum, cut out the bottom and wear it while working in the patch. works really well especially if you want to work in the rain or while overhead watering.

I should have been more specific. I meant using a rain barrel to distribute fertilizers. I recall reading somewhere that one was used to mix ferts. in with water and then put through their irrigation system.
