Which "true" leaf goes in the direction where you want the vine to go??

first true leaf is the opposite direction in most cases.

I have been told the plant generally will grow in the opposite direction of the first true leaf. Hope that helps.

It helps if you tilt the plant in the desired direction, when you transplant it!

tilting or leaning the plant in the direction you want it to grow is a major help to get it going the direction you desire!!! I build a minor hill (mound) and plant on the downhill slope w/ that tilt going the way I want. Almost always works?? LOL Peace, Wayne

Opposite first true leaf is correct 99% of the time, but once in awhile you get a maverick. Two years ago I had one grow about 100 degrees off, so you never know for sure. Maybe the tilt method would have got that plant going in the right direction, who knows?

2ndary thought, when plant is starting to vine in the proper direction, it will prbly still be airborn...(esp. if planted on that downhill slope)!!!Support the underside of the vine to help it down slowly!!! Peace, Wayne
