i would like to take this time to thank all the former and current military men and women.i would also like to say a big "job well done" in the recent killing of a very bad seed in bin laden.no matter what happens from here on out (and it may get bad), bin laden had to be pay for what he did to the usa, and pay he did. i realize there are several thousand families missing family members since 9/11 and bin laden is only one man, but we are talking about one of the worst men in our nations history and silencing him forever just had to be done.to all you that have loved ones in the continuing fight for democracy, my hat is off to you and them, and wish you both godspeed in these uncharted waters.i would like to hear from some past and or current military people and see what they have to say.be safe and bring those american flags back home in a box , not draped over one, been way too much of that in this hunt that has now captured its main target.bring the boys(and girls) home.

I work with a guy in the reserve from time to time. As good as getting the master mind is, we were discussing how the terrorist seem to have won. Our country and mentality isn't the same since 9/11. Look at the security we have to go through at the airports now. How paranoid and much more prone to using brutal tactics we've become.
Of course, he's proud to have served, but feels getting Bin Laden is somewhat of a hallow victory too. Because once we get the rest, which we will do, the question is will we return to being the country we were and knew?
On the west side, we have one of the largest populations of Muslims outside of the Middle East. And they've become so paranoid and afraid of being accused of something. Many of them actually hide and you don't see them at places like the malls like you use to.
As good as the news was, I had a hard time not agreeing with his sober view that 9/11 really damaged the county's psyche. The biggest regret being they weren't on the ball and didn't prevent 9/11 from happening in the first place. We'd be a much different country, fighting a much different war if Clinton had taken the first attempts more seriously. Followed by Bush.

The only thing constant, Jack, is change. We will never be able to return to our former psyche and identity as long as there are so many out there who want to kill us in the name of a twisted ideology. The age of innocence is over.
I agree that Clinton should have been more proactive but can't help but think that another version of 9/11 was inevitable even if 9/11's perpetrators had been caught. We're still basically a nation of humanitarians, but we've been hardened.

let me just say this: while i agree that killing bin laden may have stirred things up, we cannot live in fear, if we do then he won. he chose to call us out and now he has been made to pay for that decision, at least theres one less violence oriented idiot out there!!!!

I just hope those who serve are going to be all right. Like Tom, that's his name, he seems pretty angry and bitter. I guess on his first tour of duty, there was a gun fight and he had to kill a 15 year old boy. When he found-out, he said he got so emotional he threw-up and has never been the same since.
He was raised in a very religious household and said for the next 3 months, it was all he could do to prevent himself from blowing his own head off over the guilt he felt.
I mentioned it, because I thought he would be happy over Bin Laden too. But I guess to those who've served, war is hell regardless. I just hope they don't get the bright idea to reduce the deficit by cutting benefits to our Vetrens in need.
