Is this good to use in pumpkin patches? A friend has alot of horses and offered me all I need. Thanks for listening to my dumb questions, But I am new at this. Thanks.

Nothing wrong with it, as long it is well composted. Some horse manure has wood shavings, which takes along time to break down about 2-3 years at least.Adding Humis acid to your garden will speed things up.You may have to add some nigtrogen to you soil because if there is wood shavings in the horse manure it will tie up the nigrogen and be un available for your plants.

horse manure also tends to have alot of weed seeds that will tend to give you more weeds in your patch/gardens. Learned this the hard way last year as i spent alot of time pluckin those suckers!! I'm stickin with rabbit and llama manure this year!

Ive never seen a difference in amount of weeds,horse, cow,alpacca,rabbit,Im using 8-10 year old horse manure with sawdust,& alpacca

Same here...I've used horse manure and never had weed issues.

I would make sure its composted before adding it.

If properly composted, seed not a problem because it is basically burned up. It is true that wood shaving ties up N until it is decomposed (then releases it). But it is fine to have slow decaying mater in the mix -- I prefer it. It takes time to build good rich organic soil and I contend to believe a mix is best.

It's all i use here and my patch put out a 1280 last year.Nothing better than good composted horse manure.

Like everybody has said just make sure you compost it. I have used and works well for me.

Thanks for all the advice guys. The horse manure I am getting is composted already so things will go fine if the rain ever lets up here in PA. Good luck all.
