How long would you say an ag seedling can grow in a 3 gallon nursery pot before it needs to be transplanted?

With all the rain we are getting, no spring patch prep has been done and they still say another 6 inches of rain by midweek.

Thanks,
Mikkal

I'd say no more than 2 weeks to be safe. I used 2.5 gallon pots last year and the roots were already poking through the edges at 12 days when I transplanted them. I've seen and heard quite a few warnings not ot let them get root bound or it will affect future growth.

From past experience the sooner you transfer the plant the better it adapts to its new surroundings

I transplanted mine in gallon and a half pots after they break ground. My greenhouses are moist and built up a little higher then the rest of the patch. Theyll be going into the ground in a few days. I'll also give the patch another till staying away from the greenhouses. Nature is much smarter then we think. Better to get em out in not the greatest weather then to get pot bound.

Good advise from someone else was to arrange a plastic tent over the planting site. I think it was pap now that I think about it. I used some old flower planters with 2x4 between them so air gets under - stretched the plastic out and weighed it down using brick. It may take a few days to dry under the plastic and then you can do the prep. Doing just enough now may help you later on.
