Hi all, I was chatting to a few members on the live chat forum earlier about the TV show that I am working on and they suggested that I post a message on here.
The show I am working on for the BBC is a brand new Saturday night entertainment show and I am looking for contestants to take part who have unique and interesting hobbies/talents/skills and thought the pumpkin growing community may well be interested.
The style of the show shares similarities with You Bet which used to be on ITV in the '90s, as well as a German show called Wetten Dass and an American show called Wanna Bet (for all of which clips can be found on YouTube).
We aim to display and celebrate people's unusual talents and skills and we are particularly looking for people who have the ability to demonstrate their skills under the remit of a 'challenge'. Some examples from similar shows include a guy who could tell the artist and album of a CD by licking it with his tongue, someone who completed a Rubik's Cube underwater with one hand, a JCB driver that was able to dress & undress someone with the machinery, and a Smurf figurine collector who could identify each one by its shadow alone.
Essentially, the tone of the show is 'pointless, but brilliant' challenges.
Also on the German show Wetten Dass, I came across this challenge - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpstRrvJOuw
Now, obviously, I realise that you guys do not have an abundance of giant pumpkins lying around and you grow your veg for prestige and the skill of growing, but, saying that, if there is anyone out there that could do something just as fun and wacky with their veg creations? I think it would be excellent entertainment value for the show and fun for you guys too.
It does not necessarily have to be a challenge with pumpkins, other vegetable varieties welcome too - we are the BBC after all - so impartiality must be adhered to :)

Well, there ARE some pumpkin regatta experts out there, where people make boats out of their giant pumpkins and race them. Some boats can be quite creative.
There are also several quite talented giant pumkin carvers out there. You gettin' this Gus?

Mr. Bush (Paul), the regatta's are way kul...congrats to awl who do that Extreme thing...but thinkin (IMHO) that you need to try and contact the carvers!!! Seein a 1K# & larger pkn, turned into a work of art is incredible!!! Never seen a pkn grower lick a pkn, but such is life, I guess!!! I have seen growers inside of an AG, harvesting seeds, b/4 the carving starts!!! Know what I mean? Peace, Wayne
