I noticed on another message that "pap" said "due to spraying, vine boarer is a thing of the past". What are you using and how are you using it????

Im not Pap, but Merit,Bayer tree & shrub treatment,You need to treat plant like 3 times with a soil drench at stump & out where roots will pick it up.we have them bad here.It works but must repeat treatments.mid june, july 1st,July 15th here. The svb shows up early to mid July here

I think a shot gun would be better as you would kill more than one at a time. Don't have to worry about ruining the plant cause if it has vine boarer it's f..... any way!!!

I believe Pap meant, because of spraying you no longer have a vine borer problem. You need to spray. Before Merit and the like, vine borers were a big problem.

lol@ Homegrown!!!!

I think Pap uses his old trusty AK 47 that he forgot to turn back in when he retired from the Marine Core way back when. That's one reason why you never here of vine borers attacking his plants.
I hear the growers of Rhode Island try to stay clear of visiting Pap at his patch between July and August,,LOL!!

I have only one problem with your suggestions on spraying. In Ontario, Canada spray chemicals have been banned with out a licence. The only people who can get a license are full time farmers and golf coarse owners. That's right- It is illegal to spray our lawns in Ontario.
Isn't that the stupidest thing you have heard of. If your allergic to ragweed here, it is no fun!!!

Joe, it's sorta simple I think, tell em yer a full time farmer!!!! take the course, get yer liscense & do whatcha need to do!!! Cause you grow AG's, and it's a full time job!!! or put in a putting green, and tell em yer manage a golf course??? Peace, Wayne

Really its not stupid,If you look at the chemicals lawn worshippers are dumping on grass & effecting rivers streams ground water, the salts alone would kill a goat!A big Kudos to Canada for stopping this nonesense!!

Handyhomegrown- I know what your saying. I used to farm, and at least when we sprayed we followed the manufactures instructions, because we couldn't afford to overuse. It was all about $$. In town on the other hand people put spray on their lawns so thick, they want a dandeline to turn into brown powder over night!! $$ is no object for these guys that want a perfect lawn. And beleive me, they will do anything to get ahold of illegal chemicals, then spray at night when the neighbors are sleeping> Thing is you can smell these chemicals half a mile away
