Been planting for a while and used reg pots and peat pots and never really seen roots come out the bottom before or as the same time the seedling breaks the surface of the dirt. All my plants I started are doing this...giant tomatoes, Wursten giant beetroot and okra. There are roots everywhere poking out the bottom and sides of the small peat pots I planted these plants in. Some of these plants are barely breaking the surface of the dirt. lol Seeds are planted very shallow in Jiffy seed starting mix and a 1/4 cup on Pumpkin Pro mixed into the whole bag of mix. This is also my first year using mycos. Anyone else get roots before seeing the actual seedling?

I transplanted 3 of my starts into 1 gallon pots today due to the same issue. If the weather out here dosen't break, I may eventually pot them up into 2 gallons. 2 Gallon is as big as i've gone with the starts before planting them in a hoophouse.

Bill, I sometimes uncover the starting mix thats on top of the seed to help them pop up, the cot leaves sometimes get stuck and have trouble popping up to get light. Set your plants under a strong light when you do it though.
