Sudan is an annual forage grass. It can grow quickly and substantially. It is frost sensitive, so must be planted after the danger of frost has passed. Although a forage, there are cautions if using it as a forage for cattle and other livestock, and it is not recommended for horses. It can add quite a bit of OM to the soil. You probably shouldn't try to plow it down after it reaches full height unless your tractor is equipped with a GPS tracking system.

TodZster.....Planting some Sudan grass to augment me patch soil......used to suppress certain species of nematodes, as a result of the release of nematicidal compounds during decomposition......Not looking too good for you my Nemotode friend......I figure BiZ will be planting it everywhereZ to deter the ole TodZster....
.........SO what are you growin BiZ?

I planted sorghum sudangrass in my patch two years ago after being wiped out by hail. It grows very quickly and as mentioned can add a lot of OM to your patch. In addition myco likes it so it is a great way to build myco in the soil. If you "mow" the grass when it is about a foot tall sudan grass will root deep which is a good way to help break up the sub-soil as well.
