I have a neighbor that sits on his porch and hands out lead pills to anything that doesn't belong in my patch. No questions asked! What a great neighbor to have!

Cats in the patch are better than rats and mice!!
In the summer my cat sleeps in the cool under the canopy of the leaves and makes sure no squirrels come in and chew away at the vines.....don't worry about a few cats!!

Cats are where the meat is. They like to crap in dirt.
Cat feces are not good for you or your garden--parasites, diseases, intestinal worms, etc. Most states and towns/cities have laws or ordinances governing animals wandering free, but cats are, well cats.
Call your local humane society for the wild ones and try spraying garlic barrier for the neighbors' cats.
There are other scent and sound deterrents around, but I'll let you do the googling.
And yes, they do eat rodents that like to chew on pumpkin plants.

We had a great growing year when this kitty showed up and cleaned the neighbourhood of all racoons, squirrels and anything else it could pounce on.

I had the same problem and bought a motion detection sprinkler. It uses a couple batteries and attaches to a garden hose. After the cats were hit by water a couple times they quit coming back. These can also be used for racoons, deer, etc...

We have 2 cats and 2 dogs, err my wife has 2 cats and I have 2 dogs. They do catch rodents quite a bit out back including shrews and moles. They never crap the garden either because they are trained to use the liter box... not sure about wild cats.

Cat feces are ok in a pumpkin patch..along with dog.. Cat feces can spread something when handled. Which is why the recommend pregnant women do not clean litter boxes..the disease is toxiplasima(sp). Dog feces can contain Round Worm eggs which would be bad if you were eating the leaves...compost them and you will be fine

I spent some time googling, and the main health threat of cat scat/feces is to humans, not plants. http://www.extension.umn.edu/yardandgarden/ygbriefs/h238manure-dog-cat.html
It would be best to remove cat crap from your garden when found, and bury it deeply far away. Perhaps on your neighbor's property.
ALSO: cats hate strong smells such as ginger, garlic and citrus, BUT are attracted to the smell of urine.
So if you drink beer in your garden, don't pee there.

Cats are a great defender of your patch. Mice are known to make a hotel out of your giant pumpkin by eating a hole through the bottom. You only have to have it happen once before you're planting catnip!

My "cat"ahoula (dog) peed on one of my Ag's last year and killed the leaves. So now I watch him when he is near the garden. This afternoon he started sniffing the chicken coop next to the small garden so I let him in it. Within a few minutes he killed one of the larger rats I have ever seen. Catahoulas and cats have the advantages and disadvantages I guess.

I used to have a sand box for my kids. Cats would travel for miles just to use it. So I'm thinking set up a small sand box and let that be their shit hole instead of your patch. It might just work!!

I have 4 coonhounds bred to hunt Mt Lions. Cats are just little lions. I can pretty weel guarantee the cat problem will be gone. I can also guarantee your patch would be destroyed in the process. Chasing low flying ducks pretty well wipes out a plant. Two ft AGL. This was obviously trained sabotage ducks from BC. Bye Bye 1156 Hunt.
