I decided to grow a second plant this year so I had a new patch cut out from the edge of the woods. Contractor brought in a load of fill. It is full or rocks, trash, plastic and concrete. I will pull all of that out. But do you have suggestions as to what to add to get this in shape for a plant?
I will do a soil test but was wondering if a few yard of compost would help as well. I have a farm near by so the supply is endless.
Thanks

Hi PG-
Preparing a new site takes time but you are doing the right thing by starting with a soil test.
Look over www.Team-Pumpkin.org for some helpful advise and when the soil report comes in forward it to the Team-Pumpkin contact info and I can take a look at it for you and make suggestions.
Also, look at the 'downloads' and 'events' section as May 8th is going to be Team-Pumpkins second seminar which I encourage anyone in the area to attend.

PG, take a break from culling rocks, trash , plastic and concrete...and GO to growers seminar!!!! Prbly, the best move you could make, talk to experienced folks, face to face. Description of endless supply of compost would be cool too? manure based, I guess? how old? cow, horse, goat, llama, alpaca, rabbit, chicken, etc? Peace, Wayne

Matt I was planning on attending. I missed the first one. Last year from the seedlings you supplied I grew the 532 lb at the Durham Fair.
Wayne There is a horse farm near by. He has covered compost piles of horse manure. He keeps it organized by how old it is. He sells it for $5 for a small tractor bucket load. About 15 a yard.

PG, now I am curious..."covered compost piles" is sorta counter productive...a major item needed to produce compost is O2, or so I have heard!! curious how this works? Peace, Wayne
