Whats the best manure to use.. I was offered horse manure,good/bad? sorry may be a dumb question but still new at this? THANKS BOB.............

free manure is the best horse has a lot of weed seeds but i have used it with no problems make sure it is well aged fresh stuff is not a good choice in the spring to much nitrogen

Were the horses fed antibiotics of any sort? There is a "half-life" for antibiotics, where the drugs are still effective for an extended amount of time. This will interfere with optimum growth of your pumpkin.
Someone more knowledgeable about this can explain this better.

Horse is fine,you will have weeds either way, cow whatever!Make sure it is aged I like 2 year minimum!

I think when it comes to antibiotics in the manure, if you can get the compost pile hot enough, 120F+ I'm guessing, any lingering chemicals would probably get destroyed, along with most of the weed seeds. Also if the manure has sawdust in it, it'll definatly need to be aged a year or two.

Have used horse manure for years in many different gardens with great results. I personally love it.

3 state records have been grown from the same Horse Poop in Colorado.....as far as the seeds.....If I fart in my dirt I get lil Wizz's startin to sprout.......Our soil becomes so fertil that weed seedZ blow in from everywhereZ to seed, so what diff doeZ it make....if itZ well composted......horse is usually FREE.....!! And some of thoZe horse eat purty good.....

I like alpaca because I work on a farm where I also grow, that has around a 100 alpacas, and I scoop a lot of it. It is low in nitrogen so the piles generally dont get to hot unless we have a really huge pile. If you want to try to find a farm near you go to alpacanation.com
