Just wanted to let anyone know if your looking for something cheap to add to your garden. I go to my local greenhouse nursery that starts plants from scratch. Every year they have this huge pile of thrown away peat pots with staring soil in them. I can buy a pick up truck load for $15!! There is no weed seeds and the peat pots naturally decompose. You might get the odd pansy or something growing wild but not bad. This stuff really loosens up the soil and has good moisture holding capacity.

You need to be careful with that; you could be bringing in any diseases that that nursery may have. I would not do it.

If you are going to incorporate it into your patch, compose it for at least a year, preferably 2, turning it at least once a month.
Heed what Grizfan says: you could waste a whole season if you're not careful.

Phat Joe,
Thanks for sharing that with us. I too take advantage of that with a nursery close by. Most times this soil is of much higher quality than Colorado clay. And your right...the price iZ right. I watch for the dolomite which I dont really need since it limeZ up my soil and I need to go towards the acidic end of the spectrum.....but over all the trade off is worth it.....and sometimeZ I find that the plant they threw away iZ indeed still alive...one year I got 6 different types of mumZ that they just tossed out...and they are now coming up every year in my yard.....all for FREE.....

phat joe, awl from dead plants...curious, what caused the death of the plants? Granted, most are prbly from cold temps over the season & the price is right, but what are you getting for that price? Diseases? Unknown? IMHO...take a sample, and get analysis, b/4 haulin it home!! Peace, Wayne

Looks like I got the thumbs down on this one!!! This message board is all about learning. I've decided to still get the potting soil waste. But I am going to mix it with cow manure and grass clippings from the golf coarse. Likely stir it up for a few years offsite at my brothers farm. Should be all good by 2013 season!! Thanx for the input guys!! Phat Joe
