LOL!!!!! Well,,,, besides the obvious seeds like the Marsh, Sweet,Stevens, Hopkins seed that I think most everyone is growing, Ill throw a couple out there that hasnt been talked about very much that I think will grow some monsters. My Favorite 2010 seed to grow this year is the..
998 Liggett 10' (1636 Liggett x 1725 Harp)
The 998 Liggett and its father the pollinating plant didnt do anything special as far as heavy pumpkins on both sides go, so this year I'm going to ignore all that about the 998 Liggett seed and just look at its back ground genetics. I think I will be glad I did ignore all that heavy on both sides when I grow my personal best off it this year!!,,LOL. So really Im just going on a great gut feeling that the 998 is going to grow me a GIANT. And of course the 998 Liggetts genetics is a BIG reason why I like it. The other reason why I like it is kinda a personal reason for me to grow it and thats because Doc was one of the growers my Dad admired and followed the most(along with Joe Jutras). Dad always talked about Doc and If you wasnt growing exactly like Doc Liggett then you was growing all wrong!,,HA! so this year I'm growing that 998 Liggett seed, a seed that I know my Dad would have liked to have grown.........

My other seed pick is almost just like last years seed pick because it has the same exact last name to the seed... STELTS,,HA!
This is a seed I haven't heard any talk about very much at all and thats the
1053 Stelts '10 ( 1333 Young x 1161 Rodonis)
The 1053 Stelts went 23% Heavy and the father plant the 1161 Rodonis grew Dave a 1495 lber that went a whopping 25% Heavy! Sounds a little better then the 1421 Stelts 09' seed as far as heavy on both sides doesnt it? (1421 went 12% heavy while the pollinator plant 904 Stelts went almost 10% heavy.)
Dave, sorry in advance for the emails that your going to get in the masses now,,lol
And take your pick on any of the Sperry 2010 seeds! , I like the 1520 Sperry ( 1385 Jutras x 1725 Harp)

Brooks, you missed a key point. The pollinator for the 998 Liggett '10 was Doc's 1622 that of course, won Pumpkin Show and was around 200lbs heavy and a flawless pumpkin on the inside. I agree that the 998 Liggett just may be the next big seed.

Yep. I had that 1622 all picked out at Circleville as the Liggett seed I would grow in 2011 and even had Dr. Bob save one for me after the low seed count became evident. Then some guy named Brooks asks me about the 998 and I then asked Dr. Bob about it. Turns out Dr. Bob had loaned it to a friend in Yellow Springs for display purposes and had pretty much forgotten about it. The fruit produced a good number of seeds and I promptly put in the SOGPG seed sale.
This is a seed that had, by chance, slipped in under the radar. Largest pumpkin ever grown crossed with the heaviest(at the time) pumpkin ever grown.
Make it interesting for us Brooks. Not many people are growing it this year.

Some good picks Brooks. But what about the 1325 Sperry (or the 1520 Sperry), 1674 Connolly and the 868 Johnson (okay maybe not the 868 Johnson but I would like to see it grow big next year)??? Those are some seeds that should be on a list.

I totally miss typed the first sentence about the 998 in this thread!!!
I did forget to add that in about the 1622 , and it is one of the main reasons Im growing it. Thanks for the back up Tim!
Im glad I asked Joe about the 998 seeds early in the year, cause who knows, all them pumpkin seeds might be compost if Joe and Bob didnt retrieve the seeds before it was to late .
It sure would be a good story if that 998 seed happens to get proven by growing a world record for someone.
