I don't know about the rest of the growers in the Pacific Northwest, but I'm about ready to start building an ark. This is even a worse start to the year than the last year. Normally most amendmends would have been added and tilled in. So far it's been impossible to even consider doing any work in the patch. The long range forecast doesn't look good either. Oh well, such is life on the Pacific coast. Cheers.

Guess I'm just used to it after all these years Jake...seems normal to me. I don't even think about tilling in the cover crop till April anyways so it can rain all it wants till then.
It was been pretty wet this year.....rain gauge is always full....

We had a break in the rain Friday, so I went out in the patch and dug some holes deep into the soil so I could get the surface water to run into the subsoil. I discovered that the water table is so high that there is no place for the water to go! This is not looking good, Jake!
If by first weekend in April, we do not get a five day break.....then I start "sweatin' bullets"!!

Sounds like you guys are dealing with what we experience in the MidWest in 2008 and 2010. Good luck!

Even here in Idaho, it's very very wet for us. Usually I'm bone dry this time of year. Right now I'm a swamp, and I can't get the sulfur down that I wanted to use.

It has rained so much down here that the hillside washed away above us and I can see Noah's Ark. So far the only animal that I can see on it is a squirrel... I have no doubt that we will have better weather this year than last. + I don't till until right before I plant, so I guess thats why i'm not freaked out yet. Lol Good luck this year people!

We just had our first day of temps that were above freezing. scientists say we have at least a couple of months of la Nina left but it is becoming weaker. I say good riddance. http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/analysis_monitoring/lanina/enso_evolution-status-fcsts-web.pdf

I put my waders on to go out to the patch so I could collect a soil sample. Brought my phone with me in case I started getting sucked down. Amazingly, even with all the clay, it wasn't too bad out there. If we could get some sunshine and breezes to dry things up a big, amending and tilling could be a possibility.

Hmmmmmmm.... The NOAA long-range forecasts for the pacific northwest includes both good and very bad news. So far it predicts that the currrent La Nina event will make for a wetter and colder than usual spring, but that it will dissipate and then the July, August, Sept should be slightly drier than normal. I have a feeling this will be a very tough spring - followed by a pretty nice summer and fall....
We shall see....
