It really goes to show you how out of touch you can get in the pumpkin world in just the very short time this web site was down. It made me think a minute from now the present to back 10 years ago or so and just think about just where would this hobby really be, or us as growers really be today with out Ken and his web site that he designed a good long time ago.
Its the main operation and center of communication for growing giant pumpkins and alot of other giant Vegtables and fruites aswel, and that site is this site..BigPumpkins.com It sure has helped alot of clubs, functions, vendors, etc,, in making boat loads of money that has helped this hobby grow into what it is today. Cause if you think about it, if this site wasnt NEVER ever here... would anyone be making any money,,, at all?
Just imagine if this site wasnt here at all, and Ken just happened to go a diffrent direction in his life and grow strawberrys instead..LOL Think for a few seconds where would we be as growers today if this site never even existed? how far behind would we be from 1800 lbs, what do you think growers would be doing right now in trying to grow that monster, would we still be using Miracle grow?,,ha! Seriously though! LOL!?,I wonder how far along this hobby would be right now with out it?
It kinda scares ya even thinking there isn't a bigpumpkins.com,,LOL!!

while i have not been around as long as most up here, i fully think that brooks is absolutely correct in his statement.i personally dont think we would be anywhere close to the current record of 1810 pounds was it not for this site.i think it would be very interesting to see what chris stevens and the past record holders think about this topic. maybe we can get them to weigh in on the subject. thanks again ken for giving us this great tool to use to further advance our hobby.

Ah i remember the days before BP.COM the long cold dark winters waiting for springs arrival and those few club newsletters, scratching for the few addresses to obtain seeds, then Al Gore invented the internet then the Mallorn forum came around and we could discuss pumpkins, then the internet get better and we could actually post and view pictures. like most i need my morning cup of java and my BP.COM fix.

gary, since you asked for my opinion (haha) KEN AND BIGPUMPKINS.COM ARE THE REASON I AM GROWING GIANT PUMPKINS TODAY!! he sent me free seeds back in 2002 and i am forever in debt to him. but yeah the internet definitely has spread information like no other source could to increase weights to the current WR of 1810.

I want to highlight that the design of this site is friendly and easy to use. The site is put together well... with very few instances of broken links, etc... It's up most of the time and it's quick. So, good job on the technical aspects Ken! If you hadn't done a good job on the tech side, nobody would want to use it.
