Hello everyone, I hope everything is going well for you. We here in NZ are almost ready for competitions while you guys are prepping and planting, I love the backwardness of it all.
We are in this unique position of really being in our infancy when it comes to the giant pumpkin scene, this coupled with geography, and other factors seems to make it hard to really know who is growing out there, let alone get a dialogue between growers like all you other growers in the rest of the world seem to be doing.
I feel that being open and talking about things with other growers can only benefit the techniques we use and the pumpkins we grow, especially as environmental factors etc are unique to where you grow as much as it is around the world and here in NZ.
So to help with this, I have set up a forum for the NZ growers at www.giantpumpkins.co.nz/forum this isn't to detract from the amazing website that bigpumpkins.com is, and will always be, it has an amazing wealth of knowledge, and people willing to share information.
It is to help create relationships between local growers, in a setting that is purely NZ based, dealing with our conditions, problems, and how we do things.
Apologies if this comes across as some sort of advertising talk, as this isn't the case. It's just me trying to get the local growers to connect, and get the word out there that it exists. I know a lot of people check out these message boards, and I know a lot of people probably don't post, or let themselves be known. So if you know of any NZ growers, please let them know.
Cheers Sam

sam a great post. nothing wrong with networking to develop the hobby @ grower interest in your area. for many years giant pumpkins and green squash were grown primarily in the usa and canada. thanks to sites like this many growers have picked up the hobby and are running with it. it cant be long before a world record or two comes from areas like yours. keep up the good work. pap

Hi Ivo
Yes it would be good to get everyone to share their knowledge, and then we will have a good crack at the world record.
Thanks for checking out the site, I have extra things planned for it, and hope it will be of use to people, as well as the forum.
And yes, I will see you in Hamilton. Looking forward to it.
