Can someone tell me what the official requirements are to have a record giant pumpkin weight verified?
Does it need to be at an official competition? or can it just be weighed at the growers location on calibrated scales?
Is there a requirement for the pumpkin integrity to be officially confirmed or can this just be assessed by the grower? Here in New Zealand we only have one GPC competition (I think). The distance to travel and the timing of the competition increases the risk of pumpkin damage and missing a potential record breaker.

i would think for the growing community to accept you would need to

1. have the fruit inspected and weighed on a certified scale ---preferably in the presence of a documented state or county official in the area.

2. take many pictures -top-front-back-sides and bottom plus several on the scale

3. do a three way measurement in the presence of these same officials and record same

4. get the names and addresses of all officials and volunteers in attendance at this weigh-in.

5. document the location-date and time fruit was weighed.

6. have officials and volunteers in attendance sign all your documents.

Giant Pumpkins NZ

Hamilton - New Zealand

Hi brownie, i've said this in another post you made, but i will say it here as well. Is there and actual GPC competition here? Or are people using the name, without it being an actual sanctioned weigh off? If you check out their site there are a lot of rules that need to be adhered to.

Would be interested to find out what is happening, for NZ records I think the above methods would be acceptable, as all it seems to take is a pumpkin to be weighed at a competition, and a news paper to report it.

For world records, and proper NZ records, I think we need to come up with a proper process, I have a few ideas on this, and would love to discuss this further. Feel free to email me at [email protected]

Cheers
Sam
