now that ive finished coming to the rescue for lubadub after all those sad suggestions i also need help i have 19 days to weigh off nights are getting cold and my biggest pumpkin has slowed right down i checked for splits this morning and found none but when i got home from work found a small split right on the blossom i'm stressing now its about 1/8"deep that i can see and 3" long and seems dry i put on peroxide i have no captan or sulfur but it looks dry as though its healing however i am afraid it will split further should i cut it off the vine to be safe and wait till weigh in? do these small tears usually heal or get worse? should i keep covered at night to incourage growth? leave uncovered to slow it down ? pumpkin is 75 days old all help is very much appreciated

I have the exact same problem! What weigh off are you heading for? I have had quite a few suggestions in last few days and all say the same keep it dry and see how it goes.

small splits that occur once the fruit has slowed at the seasons end usually make it. its those splits that occur during peak growing cycles that scare me. pap

If you can get a small fan blowing over it and keep any rain of the pumpkin, that will work relly well. Also Pap is right on the money. Ian

I followed advice from Pap last season and it saved my pumpkin. My blossom end pulled away from blossom leaving a gap. It became rotten. I cut out all the soft material, hit it with sulfur from a hardware store garden section. Then I put a cheap box fan out on it 24/7. It dried out and stayed clean.
