The MAGPG that's who. At this year's GPC weighoff at Doylestown PA the bar will be raised. In addition to our already extensive prize structure, we will now be offering $500.00 to the Howard Dill winner.

Because the award is subjective we try to take the fairest approach possible in awarding this honorable prize. Every grower who weighs a pumpkin at Doylestown will have an equal and anonymous vote for which pumpkin they think is the best in shape, color, etc.

Clubs will do whatever the majority is in support of but we encourage other clubs to discuss this process for awarding the HD winner at your next meeting.

We hope to fill our weighoff with huge, brilliant orange pumpkins. Come packing heat because I assure you that the competition will be fierce. Moving forward we also hope to present the MAGPG as a leader in big orange pumpkins. Orange growers have a place in our club where their thoughts and opinions are taken seriously.

Thank you very much to all you growers out there willing to donate a chunk of your patch to orange pumpkins!

I am liking MAGPG a lot more now. I'll have to google the distance to the weigh-off. Thanks guys for putting more into the true orange pumpkins. How much is your membership dues?

Jimmy, I`d love to bring my orange one down there to Doylestown (you know how I like them Howard Dill Awards)but I don`t think my Tahoe will make it down and back . Its great to see a club promote orange as much as size.

Thanks for messing up my lineup for this year Jim! I thought that I had my choices all worked out but now I will have to sub a big and ugly seed with a deeply orange seed.

What a decision...try to raise the NJ record or try to take the HD award.

@Jim
does MAGPG have a homepage with more information about your club or is it only represented by a Facebook group?

Hi Daniel well right now we are stuck with the facebook page because, we just can't seem to stop spending money on our members and weighoff prizes! The price quote I got for a website with the functionality I specified was between $900 - $1,100. I would be curious to know what the PGPGA dropped on their new site recently (I am a member, perhaps I should ask!).

Let's see here are our current commitments:

1st place Doylestown $1500.00 2nd $750.00 plus pay thru top 10!
Howard Dill Doylestown $500.00
Furthest traveled to Doylestown $200.00
Top squash Doylestown $200.00
Largest official frut from 1193.7 Snyder by MAGPG member: $250.00 (any site)
Largest Howard Dill award by a MAGPG member: $150.00 (any site)
Next year we plan to pay approx $1.00/ pound for top field pumpkin but the details have just started to be discussed.

Any questions about club execs taking kickback $ should be directed somewhere else- we give everything back to the people!

Oh I knew I was forgetting one more thing.. the virtual weighoff. I can't steal any of Kevin's thunder by disclosing the details because he is the mastermind but I assure you that for once we will have as even a playing field as you can get taking into account the size of your pumpkin, personal best AND geographic location. The VWO is being hosted by BP.com. We will make the prizes more than appealing.

Details coming very soon!

And check this out, if someone where to win the long haul award, the HD and grow the biggest off the club seed 921.5 Rosa 2010 you could take home $850 plus the money for where you place in the WO!

the virtual weigh-off for your members will be a great contest.

the southern new england giant pumpkin growers started our first virtual weigh off in 2009.
2011 will be our third year running the contest.

its great because growers can win in one of many weight catagories which allows growers of both small to large pumpkins a chance to win a cash award .
