Hey R,
I laid down 5 yards of llamma manure back last fall with another 5 that should be finished up composting real soon. I guess its SUPPOSE to be as good as or better than cow manure in that they also have very efficient digestive systems but the best thing about it (as mentioned above) was that it was free!!! Hopefully it works out good this coming season!!!
Good luck to ya!!! Erik F.

Chicken manure is great, but very "hot"(high in nitrogen).
Needs to be composted for 6 months to a year before use.

From the last discussion on poop (see below), don't get any poop from meat eaters. Going off the comment above, Brooks is our Yoda on the subject so maybe he’ll have some input. No pun intended.

I don't know how I missed that last discussion on poop, but I recommend a book called "Holy Sh*t" by Gene Logsdon. It covers it all, including the parasite issue with meat-eaters. Compost it long enough and wash your hands carefully of course, and you shouldn't have any issues.

I think Manures are just like Compost. A variety is best. Rabbit, Llama, Alpaca, are nice becasue they are dry and cold manure can be applied direct to the patch. I hear elephant is high in organic matter..Chuck will tell you the family does not appreciate it when you bring it home from the zoo,

I put down pelletized chicken manure from a local egg farm in september. 6 mos to 1yr should be good particularly overwintering it. 2 years is quite a while unless its straightout of the chicken,So it depends on where you get it and how much its been composted.
It is also high in ca. The local organic farmers all make use of it directly in the spring. jeremy and i got it at teh same place

I've been told that chicken and pig manures are "HOT" manures, and for best results are to compost for up to 3 years, Cattle horse and other herbavors are considered COLD, which means you can apply anytime but best at 2 years old.
But the recommendations I was given was a mix of 75% cold and 25% hot composted for 2 years would give you a very good mix of everything.

I use horse-cause its free and I can get a lot off it.It takes appr. 6 months to compost.Once theres healthy red wigglers in the pile its good to go.

I hear a few radical growers are using Rhino poo in the pacific northwest.Theyll have to chime in on their results

I wouldn't use 95% of the manure out there even if free.

Best know what goes on your patch!

Forget the zoo, tried in buffalo for some and they won't give it because of insurance issuses.I heard that if you use chicken manure that you should mix it with other manures or soil.10% chicken the rest something else and use well composted manure.I'm just going to wait till Jeremy gets his and sneak over with a wheel barrel!lol

Whenever I see the scene in Jurassic Park where there are those huge steaming piles of dino-poo (herbivore variety) I can't help but think about how I'd only need a couple piles for the patch and I'd be good.
