ok, was just lookin and seen Doc's 664.5 was growin in 2003. did'nt realize it had been that long. so far it's grown a 1662 lb pkn. do anyone think that there is a seed out there, meaning older. that could pop a big one? was just wondering. i know with all the crosses that are ou there now, its easier to grow a bigger one.
but i was just curious

Actually Danny, the largest pumpkin ever grown off the 664.5 was 1524.5 pounds. Dr. Bob's 1622 was grown off the 1725 Harp and pollinated by the 664.5. Can't argue with the success of the 664.5 though. I believe it still has something to add to the hobby as far as genetic qualities go. The 664.5 has always been a very vigorous, steady-growing plant.

unfortunately older genetics most times equals older weights. to many genetic advances these past five years to go any farther back. seeds from many years ago were great in their time and do have a place in our current seeds history however, newer and bigger is better in my opinion

Pap. do you think that with all the new growing advances. that it would be possible.

im sure with the newer products and plant growing patterns used today that its very possible to get bigger results from some older seeds however, would it be as big as some of the genetics of the past three or so years? im not willing to sacrifice a garden spot to find out. to much good stuff available from the last couple years. pap

ron has a couple 1068 seeds left but to be truthfull we are holding off because we like to many of the seeds from the last couple years. i believe the 1068 can still produce big but its time for a chamge.besides the 1068 is in many of todays top seed stocks.

I don't really understand the reasoning Pap. On AGGC Ron wrote that the 1068 pollinator for his 1596 was by far the best growing plant in the patch. Why not create a newer 1450 cross, older genetics are at least 50% of the hottest seed today. Just a February opinion.
