Hi everybody, I'm Dan Boelman. I'm a RN, I work at Zanfel Laboratories (Zanfel Poison Ivy Wash). When I'm not saving the world from poison ivy, oak, and sumac, I really enjoy being outside with my wife and our three kids. Slowly, but surely they're learning to understand and enjoy this crazy hobby. I've been growing AG's since 1994, but started trying to take it to the extreme the last few years.
Here's a post you might enjoy that's similar to this one: http://www.bigpumpkins.com/MsgBoard/ViewThread.asp?b=3&p=236239

David Boyd, Rockfield, Kentucky(just west of the home of the Corvette, Bowling Green). I a rookie I refuse to count last years slack of an attempt to grow squat! But , I did utilize what I could salvage, Practicing proper germination procedures, vine control and burying technics. You'd probably never guess that my Big Dogs(Saint Bernards) are the center of my wife (Becky) and I's life and has been for 30 plus years. She married into the love of this breed and fell in love with them also! Two grown (but not married) children, daughter (known to BP.com as Drumrunner78) Stephanie and son Davey. In my down time when I check out the BP.com I talk on my CB radio both local and long distance. This year I will not see how many plants I can squeese in but see if I can control four plants and grow four decent(over 150 lbs.)pumpkins. I'll also try one squash and one melon. BSD, David

Two new pb of 1196 and 1338 this year during my 25th year of growing giants along with 15 acres of jackolanterns. Taught Earth Science for 37 years, retired 3 years ago. Always looking for smooth, orange giants for the wife to carve in front of our 1841 farmhouse - we are more famous for the carvings than the weight (swaintech diary 12/10/10 shows them). Still trying to figure out this crazy challenge of growing the "big one".

I'm Malissa from Smithville Tn. I am a medical laboratory tech for 20+ years and I work at an oncology office in Nashville.(For anyone that doesn't know, that's cancer treatment) My husband and I have been growing jack-o-lanterns, ornamental gourds, cushaw pumkins and other varieties of edible 'kins for the last 3 years to take to our local farmers market. We also have concord grapes, blackberries, black raspberries, and red raspberries. In '08 we grew some Big Max but the local bed and breakfast wanted some bigger ones for decoration. In '09 for fun I got some "Atlantic Giant" seeds. We ended up with a few 90 pounders, a 192 and a 210. With some words of encouragement and a few good seeds from John Van Hook, I was off and running. Despite our crazy weather and my lack of knowledge, I ended up with a 475.9. We hauled that thing to Allardt Tn for the GPC weigh-off. We knew it wouldn't be the biggest, but low and behold, according to GPC standards, it was the prettiest. My first site award the very first year. I can't hardly wait to get started this year with more knowledge and more seeds!!

Hi Gang... Brent Robinson 38 from Virginia, MN. married my High school sweet hart. We have 4 kids and live a very busy(fun) life.. Last year was our first try at pumpkins. Managed to get one to 140lbs.. We grew about 14 pumpkins(didn't know we were only supposed to keep one per plant).. After my 4 year old attacked them with his star wars toys we ended up with 8 pumpkins.. This year, with the help of several pumpkin auctions we are hoping for something to talk about.. Be kind and eat candy :)

Hi i'm Jeremy smith I live on a family farm in PA just outside of altoona and state college. married with 2 boys Evan 3 1/2 and Hayden 1 1/2. have been growing ags for 4 years/pb is 680. Both my sons had to go straight to childrens in pittsburgh when they bere born, the year I had my pb I had to leave around august 10th, so I couldnt take care of the pumpkins but I think I had a great shot at 1k that year. My youngest has down syndrome and had to have open heart surgery at 4 months old but is doing amazing and is a blessing. I've also had 2 shoulder operations in the past year, so its been tough giving 100% in the garden. I'm not telling you this to complain, I'm telling you this because its people like you guys that are so generous and kind it reminds me that people do care and when things seem tough, friends will always be there to lift you up. Lets all break our pb this year!!!!!

I'm taking off two years from my job as a high school math teacher and cross country coach also. Thought I'd have more energy these days but that is not the case because my son doesn't understand much about SLEEP. I will try growing again this season but honestly, I fear that I will embarass myself. Other hobbies: geocaching, bells, trumpet, hiking, mountains, running, biking.
