Correct me if I am wrong, but the GPC is not a funding agent and has nothing to do with prize money or structure of prize money at GPC sanctioned weighoffs.

I think you keep barking up the wrong tree here Mark.

NSB, if you read the GPC rules, you will find the following, make your own interpretation. Mine is that they are trying to make things fair and equal for all:

D) The Executive Committee reserves the right to deny acceptance of weights for GPC prize money and recognition if the time lines are not met.

5) The GPC requires each of its sanctioned weigh-off sites be open to all growers who wish to participate. Each site may have their own registration fee as long as these fees are equal for all growers wishing to enter. Each site
may have their prize payout structure as they choose as long as the main prizes are available to all growers entered in their weigh-off. The main prize structure shall be defined as the majority of the money and prizes available for all competing growers. Sites may, at their own discretion, offer additional regional bonuses not to exceed the value of the main prize structure.

Maybe its just me but I'm not sure what it is eaxactly that you're trying to say.

Do you mean to have one centralized prize for the biggest melon(s) in the world?

Yeah it would be biggest melon in GPC for all sites combined a 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th maybe more places. Then you also could win local prize money at each site funded locally.Isnt that how the Kins work or has that changed also??

Prizes should come from the local growers and clubs not the GPC.

It's not hard to imagine how growers in certain geographical locations will have the upper hand on a global contest.

That's why you don't see the same thing with pumpkins.

Jim, he's talking about upping the bonus on the top melons for the final standings. I talked to him on the phone the other night, we'll see where this progresses, sounds interesting.

So if you run this auction and give the money to the GPC for this year to up the prize money for melons what about the year after that and so on ? Sooner than later the GPC would be the one raising all the extra money. And what about the time they already put in as volunteers ? It seems to me that every one wants to hold auctions to fund non pumpkin things with pumpkin seeds. There is only so much money that is going to be spent at auctions and the money should go to the pumpkin clubs and no were else. Every time there is a auction on BP for a charity or any other non pumpkin thing the clubs are the ones that are paying the price. The GPC should not get involved with this.
