there needs to be a certain standard for these auctions! if the gpc is going to represent your club , the auction rules should be the same for all clubs, i just watched someone bid at the last minute on a lot and got in under the "wire" then they sold it to the previous bidder, i know all the clubs come up with there own rules it is there right, i'm just saying that there should be a set standards out there for all auctions, so we all know whats going on before we bid , maybe, just a thought? scott..

With all other auctions, that bidder would have won that lot. This auction however, the lots had been posted for a week with the oppurtunity for others to post bids. I can see this clubs valid point at trying to move things along and I believe its actually a better way to go to make things faster and more efficent. With that said, not every club has the opportunity to do what the PGPGA did, weather that reason be funding, time etc.. (not everyone has a website.) Perhaps we just keep in mind that this auction is "live," so that we don't keep from bidding at the very last second. Everyone makes mistakes and If getting that seed was that important to me, I would be bidding from the get go. These are just my 2 cents and I hope not to offend anyone.

i am trying to say that all the auctions have different rules they play by, it gets confuseing sometimes , what the rules are. we can sit here all nite and come up with pros and cons for each of the clubs actions, but this is not the point, i have bid in 90% of the auctions the past two years and seen so many different ways the auctions are run, i have seen them use the highest proxy bid for a seed,
i have seen them mention the proxy's name, its not just one auction, as this hobby progresses, there should be a standard, that's all i'm saying, i'm not picking on any one auction, just giving a few examples of what's out there, scott

Bidders should keep in mind that there is a small time delay with the chat room so if they wait too long, they may not get in under the wire. When the gavel comes down, that should be it.

yes, it is there right to come up with there own rules, they can do whatever they want with their donated seeds, people are so quick to pick apart an idea, people it is just a suggestion, thats all, you can find something wrong with almost every auction, i see people asking questions all the time during an auction. yes there is a time delay in the auctions, some people still have dial up, or slower internet.if you want to move an auction along you might as well just put a price tag on your seeds and sell them that way, the point of an auction is to have fun!out bidding one another for certain seeds this is the fun of it. it is a big decision buying seeds for several hundred dollars for some people, and rushing them or moving them along is not a good idea, i just think it is a good idea for some uniformity in the auction rules.

If you are serious about a certain seed you should be checking the auction list BEFORE the auction! You should also have a price in mind that you want to spend for said seed. Then simply bid in a timely manner. It can still be fun trying to get a seed at your price.

Marley, I am sure if you contact yer GPC rep, he or she will tell you real quickly, that they have nothing to do w/ any club auction. And, I don't think there is much variation in the different club's auction rules!!! Everytime I preview & print an auction list, the rules seem to be the same!!!! Hope this helps!!! Peace, Wayne

thank you curt, and wayne its just that if there was some order to the auctions it would make it more fun, but sometimes those little varations in the rules change the game! like you said curt "play or quit" should be my answer. also sometimes you do not have time to preview the auction list a week in advance, to know what your bidding on. it just seems funny to me that a club would turn down more money for their club, i guess for now, until there are set rules, i will continue to pass or play! i guess this is like the green squash rules very different around the country.......scott

Curt & Scott ... was not there, the night of the auction in question...so am not educated about what "zaktly" happened!!! So's I prbly shouldn't said nothin!!! But...I sorta like that each auction has a different flavor!!! If I want a lot, I certainly have printed the auction list, and learn how the auctioneer does things, early on!!! Slow auctioneer, bid at the last second? Okay...long nite..but sorta fun!!! Quick 1,2,3!!! Bid early & often!!!!! Peace, Wayne

Scott, you mentioned "little variations in the rules". Curious about the lil variations? Other than who, when, & how to contact auction folks. Help me out here!!! Peace, Wayne
