As many of you know, I am working on cloning giant pumpkin plants to be grown the following year so the special genetics are preserved. The idea is that you can be growing the same plant that grew a really big pumpkin instead of dealing with the variability of growing the same seed. This should speed up our selection process, as you can use these even as a pollinator knowing the traits you are breeding.
While my clones are still alive, there have been a few setbacks that have delayed my planned propagation. However, all is not lost, and if things progress as I hope, I should be able to start ‘cloning’ by the end of this month. (No guarantees, but I am hopeful.) Each plant was selected because it was a genetic stand-out, so they are all good plants that would compliment any breeding line.
What I am asking is for growers to reply to this post as to what clone they are most interested in (or you can rank the clones if you cannot pick just one). I only have a limited amount of space, and I want to focus my propagation efforts on the plant material that most people are interested in, so your vote is needed.
Here is what I have growing in the greenhouse:
1161 Rodonis (grew the 1725 Sweet ‘10)- HUGE pumpkin!
1421.5 Stelts (grew the 1663 Zoellner ’10)- great color!
1385 Jutras (grew the 1064.5 DeBacco ’10)- over 15% heavy with good shape!

Matt, I don't know if I'd dedicate a spot next year for a clone, but the one that interests me the most is the 1421. The other two wouldn't interest me enough to consider....this isn't based on their genetic merits....I just favor orange producers. The 1421 would be tempting for me to consider though.

I am very interested in a 1161 clone. I would like to see how big I could get a pumpkin on a clone plant. I have grow many tomato clones and they do very well.

1161 for sure. I would love to give it a try next season if possible. They are all great genetics that some people just cant afford. Its stuff like this that makes this sport so fun. Hats off to you Matt.

I would like a shot at growing a 1161 Rodonis plant. Just being able to use the pollen off the 1725 plant to make crosses would be great.
