Dont be afraid to open emails, just make sure your pc is updated with all the updates and you have a good A/V (AntiVirus)..... and practive good PC secure habitZ.....we cant go around hiding from maybe a perfectly good inquiry about pumpkins. If you have questions you can always ask the WiZ for help.

When in doubt...toss it out
A good free antivirus is AVG Run is along with malewarebytes (free version) for spyware These will keep your system fairly clean.

The Wiz is right. Opening and email won't give you a virus. It is when you open a file in an email or click something that opens the door to something being downloaded or installed that will cause you problems. But just opening an email to read it won't destroy a computer. The following is some good advice as to what attachements can be opened:

AVG also has a free program to copy to a cd or flash drive if your computer goes down to a virus/whatever. the Rescue CD download is at: http://www.avg.com/us-en/avg-rescue-cd
