thankyou for the thread joze http://www.simplyhydro.com/calcium.htm i was very interested in the apllication of calcium directly to the fruit comment to strengthen the blossom end. i thought this was a theory not a fact as its stated in this thread. are many AG growers doing this? I foliar spray calcium nitrate but this thread says that gives no benefit to the fruit.I would love to hear everyones comments and methods of getting calcium into the fruit as my pumpkins are around 13 days old and ive already had splits at stem end on one.

You are very welcome. For additional reading, I'd encourage this thread on the GVGO forums: http://gvgo.ca/mb/index.php?topic=404.0
Russ Landry penned a very informative article on calcium movement in plants.
Fact: fruits, including pumpkins, transpire. This means that there is some mechanism in the fruit flesh that allows for the passage of water/water vapor from the inside to the outside. As such, this may (may being an operative word) allow for the passage of nutrients from the outside in.
The issue is that there is no published scientific information (that i have found anyways), that describes pumpkins absorb nutrients through their flesh.
If anyone can provide documentation that developing pumpkins absorb nutrients through the flesh, we can bring this issue closer to resolution.
