I currently have a pH of 5.8 in my yard. I have yet to even create my patch at the new house due to weather, some major tree removal, and other some other repairs that needed to be addressed first. For those of you that have had low pH in the past, what sort of time frame did it take to raise your levels to at least 6.5? I purchased quite a bit of dolomitic lime and am just trying to get a schedule of when I can get this stuff into the ground, but do not want to wait too long.

Thanks

I've used hydrated lime. That works instantly and is cheap. It's not recommended but I've done it and have seen no I'll effects. Remember it counts as 1.35 times the lime recommendation so you'll need less. I have always put mine on in the fall so it has had 6 or 7monthes to mellow. When I used the proper aglime it takes about a year or more to get all the way but I was 95% by spring There are different grinds ranging from fine to course. There are charts on the net that give timetables for the different grinds. I think youll be fine, it takes a year to get a new patch tuned any way.

I have used hydrated lime too with good success. Although I bet if you put ordinary crushed limestone down now, Your pH would be acceptable ( above 6) by next summer.

Thanks guys. I'm using some dolomitic lime at the recommendation of Top P since my Magnesium levels are low too. I might try some ash and hydrated lime to speed it up in small quantities. I hope to have the patch dug and tilled with all amendments in by 1/22.
