Hope it goes well, heading down that road myself this winter, moderate L5-S1, tried everything else for 5 years, nothing has fixed the problem. Seems a shame to have givien up 5 years of limited use and a lot of pain for 1 day in and out procedure. Wish I had done it then. of course recovery will be a while.

Best of luck BIZ! I have the same thing,
L4 L5 and S1, been over 10 years for me,Ive always been a big wuss of the word SURGERY.
Been through it all, physical therapy ,tones of MRI's,nerve root blocks that only last about 2 days, and the who sha-meal.

Like most of the guys here I sure wish I would have had mine fixed like you did when it first happened , but alot of us here Im guessing where young when theirs happened, and still are, we think we are superman and something like what you have will heal itself.,,,NOT,,lol

They have come along way since then Biz and Im sure your going to feel alot better once this is all over.

Best of Luck Biz, and lift them 1500 lb pumpkins with a proper lifting technique, lift using your knees instead of using your back for now on!,,lol

Sweet1, Im in the same boat as you, I could have mine fixed years ago by one of the top Neurosurgeon in the US,
Dr. Maroon (Pittsburgh Steelers Neurosurgeon). And I still plan to have mine done sooner then later.

I know Biz will be glad he had his Back done now when he is young instead of to keep putting it off later and being in same boat as alot of us are today.
just 5 or 10 years ago it wasnt a for sure thing that surgery would fix the problem ether ,and just make it worse. But now a days from what I been reading, talking with guys who have had surgery, and from what my Dr says, its the best thing they say they have ever done and glad they had it done .

they have come a long long way in that short period of time for back surgery's.

Brooks yes, the best thing I ever did. The day of the surgery I couldn't reach to put my own sock on while sitting down, 2 hours after the surgery I tied my own shoes and walked out of the hospital under my own power. Of course after the pain IV wore off I wasn't so happy but after some short term disability and hard work rehab I was a new man.

When a person deals with chronic pain for a certain amount of time, you cease to notice how it changes you; your attitude, personality, ability to react to life's challenges and surprises. You should not live your life like that. I really mean it.

Biz, take it from a 9 time veteran of the operating room. The pain meds they give you are great, and in a few days you will be feeling much better. May God bless you and guide your doctor.

Orange, couldn't agree with you more! definately wears you down mentally as well as physically. I make my living with a shovel(so to speak), not being able to do it to full extent... gets to you. Hydraulics can only do so much, there is always handwork. Jan 18th Consultation with the Neuro again.

Take it easy on the recovery. Don't take too many of those Percosets...they'll really bind up the intestinal tract. That's experience speaking there....had my Lumbar Section opened up twice. Back problems are a curse to mankind!
