Hi all, This question has probably been asked of before so pardon me for asking again but what the heck causes foaming stumps??(Bacterial wilt, fusarium, or poor soil conditions...not sure!!) Been doing some reading and just can't put my finger on the source of this issue!) I didn't have this problem this past season but would like to be a little proactive if I can for next season!!thanks for any input!! Oh and Happy Baby Jesus birthday in advance to each and every one of you!!! Thanks again for all the help I've gotten this year from everybody here!! Erik

The best answer I've seen to this question was provided in an article written by Wallace, which was (I think) in a GVGO (?)newsletter. A link was provided somewhere in this message board at one time. Can't find it right now - maybe someone who knows where it is could re-post it here for Erik.

Growing to fast? if you poor your beer in a glass to fast it foams up, sometimes even ruining the beer. Hows that for a un logical answer!

I had the dreaded foamy stump on one of my pumpkins this year, and I'm pretty certain that it was due to too much moisture around the stump of the pumpkin. Don't let your watering system get the stump too wet - especially if you know there are cracks in the vine/stump where water can pool.

Thanks for the replies everybody!! Definitely will keep an eye on the moisture situation next season around the stump for sure!! Oh.. And richard....Tilting your glass and pouring slowly is DEFINITELY a must when pouring beer for sure...learned that lesson many moons ago during my college years!!lol!! Thanks again. Erik
