There could be a plaque (maybe there is and I don't know about it) with seeds that are voted to be put on it, say after its grown 7 thousand pound pumpkins, or has been used as a pollinator for 25 pumpkins or has met some criteria, what do you think?

You don't have to wait for me to regulate who posts first, just go ahead and post. lol
I mean seeds like 898Knauss and 1068 Wallace would be on it or in it since they have proven to be such good seeds.

I think it's a great idea, Niagra Falls would make the perfect time to vote for seeds, or anounce what seeds have earned the right to be in a hall of fame or on a plaque.

Maybe it could be brought up in Niagra? It would be like looking at the names on the Stanley Cup, or Cy Young winners, Heisman Trophy winners, on and on, I think they deserve recognition, a great discusion topic. A online line list like the past away growers memorial. Just a idea.

Richard, nice idea but the voting for such an award at best would be subjective and based on too many variable bias contraints.
In simpler terms...too many points of view and opinions on the chosing would lessen the meaning of the award.
Kind of luck figure skating and other personally judged things when a personal point of view or thought impedes a fair evaluation.

Richard, you have demonstrated enthusiasm for something that you believe is great for the giant pumpkin growing community. I applaud you and your enthusiasm. Thanks. The idea of "Hall of Fame" seed carries a bit of divisiveness (subjectability) though. Something less subjectable could be "Seed (or Seeds) of the Year". Criteria could be based on weight, top three average, rookie (1st year out), etc.. I'm one that believes that there are seeds from the past that just didn't get the chance to prove themselves and could have been as good or better than other seeds from their time.

We could keep it simple, say a seed that has grown 10 1,500 pumpkins, for this year, that would be a extremely good seed. That gets voted in, and on down the line, out of the ordinarly good results from grown seeds, anything to do with how the award is awarded, how the rules guidlines are followed can be voted on here at this site or Niagra. I really have no exp/ on doing this, someone must have the no how amongst us growers or can add to it.

I don't believe its' subjectivity is a reason not to do it. That hasn't stopped every sport from having a Hall of Fame, or Rock and Roll or Country music from having one. There will always be differences of opinion and those differences create some great debates over who should be in and who shouldn't. Debates that I believe are worthwhile having. Simply creating more objective guidelines doesn't work in the long run either - in ten years 1,500 pounders could be commonplace. Each seed should be evaluated in its' own era.
