Wi

After much consideration I've decided to donate 1810 to the GPC auction this Saturday 11-20. This will be the ONE AND ONLY 1810 available through auction. The GPC is the one organization that benefits us all as growers so I challenge you to show up with deeeeeeeep pockets.

There will likely be a 2nd 1810 available through SCGA fundraiser (stcroixgrowers.org), but those details are pending at this time.

Those are my final plans for 1810 at this point. A maximum of 2 seeds available to the general public through fundraisers. Nothing is etched in stone, however I'm 99.5% confident with my decision.

Thank you everyone and please help support the GPC this Saturday November 20th.

Your probably right Nic & it is a awesome cross as well. From the stand point of raising money for a club I would guess a club might buy it at auction & let their best grower have a go at it. Then deliver pollen from it to other top growers in their area to develope a great cross & thus having some killer crosses for next years seed sales or auctions that only that club may have.

So maybe I missed this but how many seeds were in the 1810.5 anyway?

Must of only been 4 in there G. At least used to be folks would give half of the seeds to their club or clubs. Seems to me things are alot different these days though...

Hold on there…

The GPC Auction will be the *second* auction to have a 1810 Stevens seed, Team-Pumpkin and its official seed harvesters will be auctioning one off on Friday night. Now, the one in the Team-Pumpkin auction may be better suited for those on a budget as it will be an empty seed (NO embryo) but it will still be a seed from the current World Record pumpkin.

I can say from actually scraping the walls clean of every possible seed in the 1810 that there are not many of them to go around at all. I was told that I really got ‘into my work’ which I guess is a true statement but the goal was to ensure no seed was left behind.

I want to thank Chris for letting Team-Pumpkin be able to auction off even an empty seed. This will be the first ‘empty’ seed ever to be auctioned off that I am aware of. (There is also another 1st time brought to auction item in the Team-Pumpkin line up that can be found in the home page line-up, once posted.)

Now YOU hold on there...before yall go about assuming anything I simply did not know the story about the 1810 and the seeds and asked the question. If you want to read some crap into what I said and start an issue be my guest but leave me out of it.

Side tangent; if someone does grow the 1810; any plans to clone the vine? If there are so few seeds, it might take a JVH/1450Wallace approach...

The only seed from the only 1800 pound pumpkin ever grown at the only auction is all that matters. Grab your favorite drink and munchie and we'll see you at the auction boys!

Dewight, Your first post didnt seem like a opinion to me, but rather accusing him of not giving seeds out like everyone else has done in the past, with out you know the full story of just how many seeds was in that pumpkin.

He cant donate half his seeds to his club or give them all out to every auction that wants one if he doesnt have the seeds to give out,, can he??.

If you guys will just wait awhile, I am certain you wil be able to buy 1810 on Ebay. I think I heard from someone somewhere that over 100 seeds will be up for sale at that site.

Althought I dont agree with Dewights wording I think it was his right to make his feelings known. I also think he would have a change of heart if he knew the real count in that pumpkin. No one in this thread has mentioned that. Personally I think if you have less than 50 seeds you should not feel pressured to dish em out. I happen to know the 1810 had way less than 50.
I am sure that Chris would feel a lot better if there were 700 seeds and he could help everyone out. This year sucks for seed counts.
PS the 1030 Delaney (901 Hunt x 985 Werner) will be the next hot seed. lol

This will be a your best shot to get the 1810 but I would have to say you better bring the the BIG CHECK BOOK. At the very least it will be one H#$$ of a show so don't miss it!!!!

Don't forget the other top producers in the auction:
1161 Rodonis
985 Werner
1288 Wallace
904 Stelts
1421 Stelts
1725 Harp
1140 Stevens

And much much more this will be the premier auction of the year and the proceeds go to helping all growers & the Niagara seminar!!!

Dig up another coffee can, get out that moldy money, cut into that mattress and get to the auction right here on BP Saturday night 11/20 at 8pm this will prove to be one for the ages!!!

Ladies and gentlemen, with such a poor seed count, I wanted to choose the organization that best reflects the interest of all growers. What better organization than the GPC to represent the 1810 through auction? The SCGA being my home club was the other easy choice.

As far as total seed count we are still finalizating the grading process, but I expect the final talley to be in the upper teens (I'm optimistic there will be 19). It's been an extremely difficult decision as what to do with the seeds.

Thank you all for your understanding.

Where ever they end up it's my sincere hope they see dirt.

Whoever grows one, consider cloning some vine tips.

At least there's more than one. I don't envy you Chris, trying to decide each one's fate.

I suggest you just send that seed down to New Zealand for our season now. I will grow a 2000 pounder turn it into 500 seeds and send them back for you guys for the 2011 season. Everybody wins!!!

Now you can fully appreciate and understand what the Harps went through, and you still have 10 months to ride it out till someone has a shot at beating you! We seem to live in a me me me society and as Pap and (Marv in previous years) have said... "Is it spring yet?"

Conundrum??? Which is more of a Pain? 1725 (lots of seeds) & lots of requests? or 1810 (very few seeds) & Lots of requests? Seems to be sorta equal??? LOL I feel for both of these incredible growers!!! I think both have & are doing their best!!! Sorta thinkin, they both made very good decisions!!! & Congrats, Chris!!! Peace, Wayne

Ohhhh, so glad you posted here Chris. My pet hamster is very sick. The vet says it is because he is 12 years old, and that is like being 150 in human years.

I don't believe him. I know the only way to cure my hamster, (Squickiez is his/her name, I'm not sure the gender though ), is to feed her 10 of your 1810 WR pumpkin seeds.

Unfortunately I cannot afford to send postage because of the expensive medical cost of Squickies, but would it be too much to ask you to just send me the seeds?

I'll be good to pay back the postage later.

You see, I've got a pending law suit asking for a structured settlement from pet medical malpractice
