one to look out for is the 1622 young, this seed did not see much dirt (that i could find out.). and still managed 5 pumpkins from 1,318 to 1,448. i'm probably wrong, because i'm new to this, but a great top five average for a seed that i could only find 9 entries on the pumpkin link, for a 09 seed.just looking at averages, had time on my hands today,..

sure thing Joe!

I didnt mean to put my 977 seed on this post (even though I do think it will be a good one,,lol,) I ment to put it on the Howard Dill award winners post that Matt D. put up.

But as far as the Hot seeds in the auctions, well, any of the top ten seeds on the gpc page will be really hot. And one of my favorites is ,of course the obvious, the one that had a very low seed count, the 1810 Stevens, but one seed I really like that I think will do good is the 1645 Bordsen

I think the 1725 Harp will also empty a few growers wallets.

1140 Stevens (1073 Carlson-Peterson x 998 Pukos) is in the top 15 seeds of all time AND it is probably sitting in your collection, due to its wide distribution.

Compelling facts:

AGGC ranks it #14 in the top 5 average of all seeds.
1561 Stevens, 1543 Stevens, 1422.5 Ailts, 1325 Hopkins, 1296 Hopkins

7 total official entries in the AGGC, all >1000lbs, making its ">1000lb consistency quotient" 100% (# pumpkins >1000lbs divided by total # pumpkins registered) An eighth fruit weighing over 1000lbs also exists, not yet entered in the AGGC database.

Compare this with the top seed in the world (1161 Rodonis): 65 fruit entered in AGGC, 44 over 1000. This is a 67% "1000lb consistency quotient"

Additional 1140 Stats:
Grandmother of the 1675 Hopkins
It averages 5% heavy to the charts
Its a "sleeper" in auctions...

Another interesting tidbit regarding 1140. 1140 seems very disease resistant. It's been my last plant to succumb to root disease and last plant to succumb to powdery mildew. While my 1161 was fighting PM this year 1140 had immaculate green leaves. Those plants were grown next to one another.

Now that the 1140 has been crossed into the 1500 Revier (1325 Hopkins grew 1675) and 1288 Wallace (1561) it will will be very very interesting to see what those seeds can do!

Chris , your right on that 1140, even though I couldn't get a female to pollinate on that plant due to the humid hot temps in July it was very, VERY disease resistant as far as the stump goes and the leaves looked. After the middle of August I never touched that plant and the leaves looked great up untill the end of October. And thats saying alot because I never used 1 ounce of insecticide/fungicide, nothing on that plant after end of July.

Another plant that grew like your 1140 a couple years ago was the 1231 Pukos plant, that was another plant that seemed to out last the rest of my plants, the leaves looked just as good in October then they did in Aug. (But I did use fungicide on this plant, but not that much.)

Chris, dont worry about the avertisemnt of your 1140 seed, just send your 1140 out to me sometime this week when you are out of the woods, cause my dude Glenn, ( North Shore Boyz) wants to grow that seed to 1600 lbs or maybe just slightly more I think,,LOL, He likes the orange pumpkins but he wants a big one, so right away I told him about your 1140 and all of a sudden,, a little light came on in his head that your 1140 seed is the ticket!, LOL

We grew the 1622 young this year and all I can say is wow. Very aggressive plant that was easy to take care of. No problems of any sort with the fruit. PM wasn't an issue either. 1375#'s for a couple of rookies who didn't know how to really push the fruit isn't too bad. We are planting this seed again next season because we know we could have grown this alot heavier.
