Please tell us who these people are so that we can be sure not to associate with them anymore. Sorry to hear that world record pumpkin = world record amount of BS sorry that you have to deal with that.

I agree. That quote is just plain mean and anyone who has spent time with Nick or Christy or Christy's parents know that they are some of the nicest people ever. So I say "dislike" to whoever wrote that.

Yea Christy...sorry bout all the crap you had to go through. You and Nick have earned everything you have ever accomplished and it couldn't have happened to a nicer couple. As for these jerks emailing you with nothing but crap I say this...give em my email and tell them I'm your publicity manager and I'll "take them out behind the pumpkin patch!" And give them the attitude adjustment that they have coming!! God Bless :) Erik

Hang in there Kid. You earned and received a WR. Everybody wants it but only one gets at a time whether it's for a day, year or five years. No tears or mental anguish for jerks and lifes losers. They surround us.
40,000 TB's born every year but only one wins the Kentucky Derby.
Pumpkins =Seed, soil, sun, luck.
KD winner = genetics, food from the soil, good weather on race day, and maybe a little luck.
You did it, you won, and you did it with class.
The Black Diamond bakery misses you. I get to go there when your here.

Holy crap!! At first I couldn't figure out what this post was about then I saw Christys diary. C'mon people there just pumpkins.

Real sorry Christy and Nick that what should have been one of the most memorable and satisfying years of your life with a new baby and a WR pumpkin in the same year was a bit of a disaster in some respects. Be proud of what you acomplished in the patch and even prouder what your going to acomplish as a family, and I hope one day you can remember only the good parts of being the Pumpkin Queen for a year.
Cheers,
Chad

As you've learned this year...there are ignorant people all over. These people will never be happy. Dont let these people take the fun out of what we do. Just keep smiling and look at the facts...
You grew a WR and they didnt...

Christy,

Feel like I know you from reading your diary, and just looked at your photo gallery of you and Nick in 2002.
I know you are from good stock and would never do so....but I wish you'd tell us a couple names so we can root them out....they should not get away with jealous, petty behavior like this. We are all in this for fun, and to play in the soil....

We all give you and your family our best.

anyone who ever met christy or nick knows that they are edcuated, quality people.
if i could have offered then any advise early on i would have told christy and nick to let the crap roll off and be done with it.pay it no mind.
the more you talk about these idiots that hide behind a computer and feel they have the right to say anything they wish, the more you feed into them.

after all thats all they are looking for is attention.

as i said earlier. christy and nick are very fine young people who deserve to be treated with the same respect they have shown others on this site

Christy, anybody that can take the boloney that you have taken this past year is just first class. You have held your head high and should be proud of it. Those comments to you are just ignorante. For those who don't know Nick and Christy, they are one of the most nicest couples you would want to meet. End of story.

Christy, the ignorance of a few people never fails to astonish me..who ever wrote the letter to you should get the "green eyed monster jacket"..just because his or hers lack of grower skills has kept this individual from growing a world record pumpkin he or she shouldn't let their incompetence consume them to the point of envy.

chin up Christy you will always be the first person to grow a pumpkin over 1700lbs and a world record pumpkin holder.

one record you will never have by the way is the rudest Gemini, that record belongs to me :)

Wow, that is just horrible. I will never understand how some people can operate that way. I hope you are at least keeping a list of those people so that it can be quietly distributed amongst the heavy hitters so those people get what they deserve - NOTHING! Wow, people can really be petty. I have never and will never grow a giant pumpkin because I do not have the dedication to do it, and am all the more impressed with all you folks who do. That's why I read all your journals. What a fantastic group of people you all seem to be, what a lot of camaraderie goes with the territory. Christy, you belong to a wonderful, fun-loving bunch, and those jerks that maligned you are just jealous!

As for luck, well I'm sure everyone on here will agree that all hard work, vast amounts of money spent, and time beyond measure, amount to nothing without luck. So to say you were just lucky is an understatement!

Remember your year with pride, you are still and always will be my pumpkin hero!

So anyways Christy,if you are reading this,I wanted to say that even though I have never met you,I was pleased to see such a nice lady win the title with just plain old hard work and smarts. I also wanted to email you to tell you that your image is being used to sell giant pumpkin seeds on ebay, but you probably knew that. I would bet those people don't care about your feelings.Take care of yourself....pete pumpkin-eater.

I read your diary and I must say that the person who did that lacks any moral fiber and has little people skills. I've met some really great people in this hobby and I've met some really asinine ignorant people. Plenty of jerks out there. I personally would out the person that wrote that nasty gram. Their behavior is uncalled for. If I ever grow a world record and some idiot writes me an e-mail message like that, all I have to say is watch out....Sorry that growing that pumpkin was bittersweet. it's a drag because 6 months out of the year is spent on growing these things and after all the trial and problems during the year just getting a pumpkin to a weigh off is hard enough. Having someone take away the pride of reaching a milestone in this hobby is so typical of people's inability to be happy for someone's else's accomplishment..Never mind somebody stealing the joy out of growing a world record...

I could tell you and Nick were of fine stock the moment I met the two of you. Young people of your quality who worked so hard DESERVED that world record. Don't forget it.

Cherish that experience and learn from this one. There are some very petty and hutful people in this world and you just ran into one. Consider it a life experience.

I think the success and fame of giant pumpkins over the last few years has brought out some nastines in people.Don't know if it's from jealously or someone who just doesn't like to see when someone is acknowledged for their success. We have seen letters sent around last year trying to explain unfair advantages. Christy has seen her share of comments either from mail or email. I'm sure others have been exposed to this also. As so sport grows and the awards and prize money grows I hope the negative comments do not grow also. Because you can talk to someone who has grown an 1800 lber or 100 lber and you'll find you have a lot in common and they are just average everyday good people.

There's buttheads everywhere Christy & the mere fact it has affected you so much just goes to show how nice & compassionate of a person you are. A hardened mean spirited person would laugh it off, someone who honestly wants to be a helpful giving person takes it to heart.
Folks are much meaner in a e-mail than they would ever be in person.

Christy you have always been a breath of fresh air in the hobby- don't let a moron ruin it. That said, perhaps a filtering system should be recommended for anyone in that situation. Take Chris' situation for example. As a method of filtering dump all requests in a box as they come in- have that box opened and sorted by someone (wife, club rep, friend who's relatively uninvolved yet aware of the deal) to remove the trash that makes it an unpleasant experience. Then pass on the bubbles/whatever to chris so he can deal with the championship w/o the moron effect. Responses like the one Christy just explained need not make it to the top!

Christy, you know how I feel about them type people and how that type person piss's me off to no end, but I will guarantee you the rest of the 99.9% of the pumpkin growing community that stupid stuff dont even enter their heads when they think about you. We as 'TRUE' growers are behind you 100% of being a great world champ.

Although I know its hard to do to let that this type of persons actions go in one ear and out the other, cause I need to practice that myself sometimes, I know it can be hard to let that type stuff go, espically towards people thats in this hobby that shouldn't be, the ones I/WE know is 100% a rat. (even while still others cant see it).

So Chin up Girl, grow another world record soon and show em they was messing with the wrong MAMBA JAMBA! lol,, I dont think mamba jamba is a word, but I'm sure you get the point,,lol

Christy, I don't know you personally, only hear all the good things folks have to say about you and Nick, and Blaine too. It seems you all have alot more friends than enemies from looking through this board and your diary.
I wonder if those idiots with the mean e-mails included a name? Seems like there are lots of internet bullies but most of the time they won't identify themselves. WEAK people in my mind. If they had a backbone they wouldn't fear including a name along with the opinions. I think like others have said, they are jealous, there is only one number one at the end of weigh-offs. You were that person in 2009, regardless if you were a man, a woman, or a child. NO ONE can take that away from you!

Christy, just like in school, there are always a few students who are bummers for teachers but most students in our classes are wonderful and one must think of all those who loved and supported you and not those bummers in pumpkin life or life in general. As a woman grower, I'm sure you got more sh*t from some who don't believe women can 'gro em big', but you showed all that it's not gender but hard work and dedication to get a record. Congrats on breaking the 1700er mark and now just breath easy and enjoy that new baby of yours!

Its a horrible thing when one has to rip one down to make ones self feel any joy, I have trouble believing that anyone would be so cruel to YOU! They haven't a clue to how truly kind and giving you are! I agree with Glenna, your reign was much deserved and a highlight in my book for sure! This ankle biter needs to let you well enough alone and if he/she has any grit to them they should do us all a favor and leave this wonderful hobby and go do something that meshes with their personality-like swim with sharks or take up politics. Crazy stuff, but don't give it another thought.

You know, it takes a LOT of courage and guts to hold that in for the whole year. I know I probably would have countered and caused a big scene.

One thing I wanted to mention... if anyone goes back and looks at the pictures of Christy and Nick's patch last year, it's incredible. No weeds! There are only a few of us that have that sort of dedication. The record was obviously deserved... I feel funny saying that because it "goes without saying." Stating the obvious sometimes is painful because the need to state it sometimes makes the implication that there could be some doubt. Well, there isn't, of course.

Anyway, don't let it get you down. The good will outnumber and outclass the bad.

Christy and Nick:
First, that was the most honest diary entry that I have read in a long time and I appreciated you did it out of love and not to spite the person. It reminds me of that scene in 'it's a wonderful life' where George Bailey is meeting with Mr. Potter and he says, "I know what's going on here. You've been after the Savings and Loan for years. It's the one thing you can't get your hands on and it's knawing at you!" Then, he leaves. To me, whomever is criticizing you is one and the same with Potter. You deserved the rewards and you acted like a champion!
Blessings!
