Well, since I am a verified and fully admitted seed hoarder, seed trader, Dill approved seed seller, seed lover, and overall OCD freak, I would like to go ahead and say that our seeds are still available for trade.
First, this is not a shot across the bow of those who are going with the 'promise to grow' stance as I can completely understand. It may have been about a decade ago, but I can remember the days of 20 requests...a day...all winter long. It is time consuming and can get costly, and lets face it, most of those seeds are rotten or roasted by now as new guys and one timers had no clue to do with them or the drive to continue growing year after year. I am simply still old school, and since I can't grow really big ones, I have fun getting acquainted with everyone.
Our address is: Brett and Julie Hester 10855 S Macksburg Road Canby, Oregon 97013
What to send? Well, when I put a seed request together, I send a sample of my seeds in a self addressed bubble pack with enough postage ($1.22 currently) to cover the return trip. Then I stuff that in a manila envelope with a brief letter requesting seeds from the grower.
Overall for a batch of seeds from a pumpkin/squash, I set aside about 50-75 seeds as keepers, then donate a bunch to our club, then whatever is left goes to other people. I still write on each seed and keep track of who gets what to avoid fake seeds being traded.
Yes, things were different when I started growing, and old habits are hard to break, but I still love trading seeds with people. I still remember getting my first few batches of Atlantic Giant seeds from Kirk Mombert, Ron Nelson, The Dill's, The Emmons, Joel and Mary Lou, and even Ray Waterman. It was like a warm welcome to Giant Pumpkin growing. Why the website then? Well, to my friends here at BP.com, its request first, trade second, and use the website as a tool to see pictures, genetics and basic stats on our fruit and The AGGC is off limits to me.
