I had several pumpkins this year but they all develoded a white sheen on their surface. Then they emulsified turning into mush.
Can you tell me why and what can I do to prevent this from happening in the future.
Thank you.

At what size....if still in the pre basketball size I would suspect a fusaria/alternaria type plight..

Hey Bob got your email. If the pumpkins are just getting on the vine some won't even get to baseball size. The vine sap is white and thick. The only way of really proving to yourself it is a fusaria blight is by having a fresh tissue sample of the vine and fruit done at the lab. fusaria is soil borne and will persist for several years in the soil. It is also highly contagious...all your tools should be bleached...walking through the patch and stepping on new soil will spread it. it sticks to your clothes etc. recommendations for cure is three years fallow...there are soil sterilants which may cure it but if you can move the patch to another location. if you look back in my diary you'll see lots of pictures of white mush. Good Luck! GrowEmBig! Chuck
