Had alot of borers this year. What should I do to minimizw them next year?

For starters, till that ground very well. All those surviving larvae are overwintering in the ground right now and will emerge next year as adults. I got by with spot pesticides applied this year, but that took a lot of time. Many people on here use systemics like Merrit. You can set out traps too to trap the adults flying around the plant.

I had a trap and it collected alot of adults. When is the best time to water in the merit?

An application at spring tilling(or better yet, use Grub-X or another granular formation with Imidicloprid). Then, an application of Merit every 30 days.

I use Merit in combination with Bifen (Talstar) and haven't had a single borer 2 years straight.

yes use granular merit and foliar spray with a liquid spray

Or if you can't find pure merit, I use Grub-ex all around the perimeter of the garden and the yard. Get it at Home Depot or Lowes..
